Laura Simmons – Occupational Therapist

Laura is an experienced paediatric Occupational Therapist and Feeding Therapist who supports children aged 2 to 18 years.

She has worked extensively with children who struggle with conditions like Autism Spectrum Disorders, sensory processing concerns, ADHD, Down Syndrome and other developmental delays.

Laura has worked extensively with children who have additional learning, sensory and behavioural needs and frequently offers practical support to parents and teachers who care for children who struggle to regulate their emotions and behaviour.

She also has a special interest in helping very fussy eaters overcome their feeding difficulties and is trained in the SOS (Sequential Oral Sensory) Approach to Feeding.

She coordinates Kids First’s feeding Clinic, which provides targeted, evidence-based support to help children overcome the challenges posed by their picky eating.

Laura has travelled internationally to observe first-hand the most current methods of supporting children with Autism and is committed to keeping up to date with professional development and best practice methods.

As a result of her experience and training, Laura is an important member of Kids First’s multi-disciplinary team providing therapy to children eligible for self or plan managed NDIS funding.

In addition to her work with children with special needs, Laura helps kids of all ages and abilities who need to improve their core strength so that they can concentrate on tasks at home and school.

She shows primary and high school students how to improve their handwriting and also builds the motor coordination confidence of children with fine and gross motor delays so that they can enjoy school, sport and playground activities.
