What Makes Kids First Different?
Kids First have been proudly supporting children and families with unique needs since 2007. We have had thousands of kids at our practice here in Sydney and through our telehealth.
Through the wonders of technology, our clinicians work with many families that are unable to come into the practice.
Some of Kids First’s team members are special needs parents just like you …
We have children and other family members diagnosed with disabilities like autism, anxiety and intellectual disabilities…. So we have been where you are and are committed to reaching out to your family.
Because of our own experiences, we understand that traipsing around from therapist to therapist is draining and difficult for you and your child… that’s why we offer all of our services under one, conveniently located roof.
At our centre in Brookvale, we’ve gathered a highly trained, vastly experienced team of proactive disability specialists. Under one roof, you'll find:
- Speech Therapists
- Occupational Therapists
- Child Psychologists
- Early Learning Support Specialists and special educators
- Social Skills Groups and much more
We Have Supported Hundreds Of Families Through Their Successful NDIS Applications & Reviews, Helping Their Children To Thrive!
The NDIS takes a life-long approach to building better futures for children and young adults who live with disabilities and developmental delays by offering funding to support their access to services that increase their capacity to live their best lives.
Kids First play its part in this inspiring mission by providing a wide range of therapeutic and special education supports to children who receive self and plan managed funding.
Throughout our history, we have been consistently selected by the Australian government to provide funded therapy services through initiatives such as the Helping Children with Autism and Better Start for Children with Disability Initiatives.
With our help, Kids First’s clients have received much needed financial support from the NDIS, with support budgets that have ranged from ranging from $5,000 per year to more than $65,000 per year.

NDIS Funding And Support:
NDIS funded support for children aged 0 - 6
The Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) program is available to any child who is under the age of 7 years and has a developmental delay or disability.
The ECEI approach is designed to provide an early injection of funded supports into young children’s lives so that families can help their son or daughter to build the skills they need to participate confidently at home, preschool, school and their community.
NDIS funded support for children aged 7+
NDIS funding is available to any eligible person aged between 7 and 65 who lives in Australia and needs support because they live with a permanent and significant disability.
NDIS funding gives participants the ability to choose and control the supports so that they can get the most out of their life.
Kids First Understands
As a parent, you worry about whether your child will ever be able to:
- Live independently
- Form meaningful relationships
- Finish school
- Get and keep a job
You worry about who will care for your child when you are no longer able to do so.
So many parents wish that they could do more for their special needs children and feel guilty that they are limited by time, finances and the responsibilities they have to their employers, other children, parents etc.
The complexity of bureaucracies such as the NDIS, school systems and other environments certainly don't make it easier for parents.
It is for this reason that we utilise our LEARN Process to help get the best results for your loved one.
How Our L.E.A.R.N Process Helps:
Kids First’s experienced therapists and teachers understand the challenges that families with unique needs have because some of our team members have had a similar personal experience.
Our L.E.A.R.N. process ensures that we understand the goals that families have for their kids and ensures that everything we do is aligned with the outcomes the child and family are aiming for.
Here is an outline of our unique LEARN Process:
You are the expert in your child's needs. We listen carefully to you because your insights are vital and incredibly valuable. The goals you set for your child and family form the basis of everything we do at Kids First and we respect your perspective and needs.
Explore Every Option
Finding the best clinical options for your child & family is our priority. We will give you our best, most ethical advice so that you are equipped to make informed choices for your child.
We will devise a customised action plan for your child that is supported by clear goals, relevant resources and evidence-based strategies that can be easily implemented at home or in the classroom. We will provide your family with the guidance and documentation you need to make a comprehensive funding request application to the NDIS for your child, and every year, we will be there to help you with your child’s annual funding review. Our aim is to make it simple for you to support your child, and for you and your child to feel encouraged and successful.
Our ‘Monthly Milestones’ program regularly measures the progress your child is making. Every month, we will give you up-to-date information about your child’s developing skills. This ensures that we are always working collaboratively with you toward your child’s goals.

Dealing With Isolation:
Children with unique needs sometimes struggle to make and keep friendships. Their parents worry about the short-term and long-term effects that social isolation may have on the child.
Parents of special needs children can also experience feelings of being misunderstood and marginalised by members of their families, friends and school communities (including teachers).
Unless a child attends a special needs school, many families with a disabled child know few other families who share their experience.
This means that there are few ‘safe’ places in the community in which they feel accepted and valued for who they are.
The Kids First Solution:
Among the many services that Kids First offers are our popular Social Skills Groups which teach special needs children the subtle art of making and keeping friends.
Led by experienced special educators and psychologists, these small group programs utilise the internationally respected and evidence-based ‘Social Thinking’ and ‘Secret Agent Society’ models. These are specifically designed for children with unique learning, social and behavioural needs.
Parents are part of this social skills education process and our educators and clinicians keep in regular contact with our participants’ parents and teachers.
A sense of community often builds around these programs as children meet like-minded peers and families get to know one another in a social setting.
