Louella Covich – Psychologist

Psychologist Louella Covich is passionate about helping families find solutions to the problems that children and young people face.

Louella is well-known in the northern beaches for her work in private practice, not for profit and community settings where she has been supporting children, parents and carers with a variety of needs for more than 15 years.

As a parent herself, Louella understands the pressures that challenge families. She is a warm and accepting professional who provides a safe space in which kids and parents can explore and resolve the issues that worry them.

Louella supports children of all ages and abilities and is particularly skilled in helping kids cope with the social and emotional demands of school and preschool.

She helps children experiencing emotional difficulties such as anxiety and depression, as well as challenges such as conflict, anger management, separation and bereavement. Louella works closely with children who have additional learning, developmental or sensory processing needs, helping them find ways to manage their feelings and improve their relationships with others.

Louella also offers practical support to parents and carers with whom she shares ideas for understanding and managing kids’ behaviour, as well as strategies for building better connections within families.

In addition to Louella’s extensive experience as a psychologist, she has post-graduate qualifications in Play Therapy, which she often uses to build children’s trust and confidence. Along with other evidence-based intervention methods such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Louella uses play and art to heal a child’s hurts and has found it to be particularly effective when supporting children who have experienced trauma, domestic violence and bullying.

At Kids First, Louella offers private counselling to children of all ages and abilities and is a trusted personal adviser to parents and carers. She also leads our popular Circle of Friends groups that support children aged 8 – 11 as they develop improved friendship and social skills.

Appointments with Louella are available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and are eligible for health fund and Medicare rebates. She also supports children who receive self or plan managed NDIS funding.
