In Sydney, there are 35 high schools that offer places to students who have demonstrated their outstanding academic potential.
15 of these high schools are ‘fully selective’, meaning that every student has been merit-selected at special entrance exams for their advanced academic skills.
There are also 20 other high schools in Sydney that have ‘partially selective’ classes. In these schools, local students with a wide range of abilities are enrolled, together with students who have been selected on academic merit.
2 agricultural high schools in Sydney offer selective placements in Year 7 and there is also a selective senior high school that offers entry to Years 11 and 12.
