Kim Shortridge – Psychologist

Kim is an exceptionally kind, compassionate and down to earth psychologist with extensive experience in supporting children and families.

Kim provides parents with practical strategies that address the many and varied challenges that families face. She also works closely with children, helping them to find solutions to the problems they encounter at home, preschool and school.

She also helps children and teens to manage their anger, deal with complex family relationships and navigate their way through challenging experiences such as chronic illness and bereavement.

Kim’s experience as a counsellor in both private and non-government sector roles means that she has often supported vulnerable children and families. She offers understanding and evidence-based advice to those affected by domestic violence, mental health struggles, poverty, trauma and neglect, homelessness, social isolation, and relationship challenges.

Kim particularly enjoys helpng parents to build better relationships with their children and is a certified facilitator in a number of well- known and respected group programs for adults and children, including Circle of Security, Triple P for Parenting, Cool Kids and Tuning in to Kids.

Her background in the comprehensive assessment and diagnosis of children’s learning, behavioural, and emotional problems also means that she has the qualifications to identify and support children who struggle to learn, as well as those who are gifted.

Kim’s high level of training, combined with her caring, common-sense approach to helping families find a way to move forward means that she is a popular member of the Kids First team.
