Kate is a warm and empathic child and adolescent psychologist with vast experience working within NSW Department of Education, Catholic and Independent school systems, early childhood, and private practice settings. Kate is also a PsyBa-Accredited Supervisor and at Kids First, she provides professional supervision support to the emerging clinicians who are part of our Stronger Together program.
In addition to her qualifications and experience as a child psychologist, Kate is an accredited teacher with the NSW Education Standards Authority and is certified in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Program.
Kate understands the complexities of child development and values the opportunity to work within Kids First’s multidisciplinary team to optimise outcomes for children and their families.
Her extensive experience in both psychological and education settings means that she has in-depth understanding of the demands of classroom environments and school resources, as well as relevant disability legislation.
This enables her to work effectively in collaboration with parents and schools to effectively identify, understand and nurture children’s individual learning needs.
As a self-confessed “stats geek”, Kate is Kids First Children’s Services’ Queen of Psychometrics! She supervises our psychology team as they conduct assessments for:
- Intellectual giftedness – including twice/multi-exceptionality and gifted underachievement
- Specific Learning Disorders (dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia)
- Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
- Intellectual Disability
- Mood Disorders (e.g. Anxiety & Depression)
- Behavioural and Conduct Disorders
- Standardised academic achievement in literacy, numeracy, and written expression
She has expertise and a particular interest in the assessment, diagnosis, and support for children with specific and complex, learning and developmental needs.
Kate is a highly sought-after clinician renowned for combining her clinical and analytical skills with an engaging and personable approach to assessments, that enables children to quickly feel comfortable and engaged during testing sessions.
She is skilled in conducting functional assessments of behaviour and developing comprehensive Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and support plans for children presenting with specific learning needs, developmental delays, and challenging behaviours.
The foundation Kate’s clinical practice is grounded within the scientist-practitioner model. She is committed to ongoing professional learning and continual refinement of her professional practice. In pursuit of this, Kate has been awarded a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, Postgraduate Diplomas in Psychology and Child and Adolescent Mental Health, a Master of Gifted Education (with Excellence), and a Master of Research in Psychology.
Kate is also the recipient of multiple academic awards and scholarships and is currently completing her PhD in Educational Psychology at the University of New South Wales.
Kate maintains active participation in a number of professional and research communities. She is a Committee Member and Secretary on the APS Psychologists in Schools Interest Group, GERRIC Research Community participant, Member of the International School Psychology Association, and participates in UNSW Educational Psychology Research Group activities.
She is also an experienced PsyBa-Accredited Supervisor for provisionally registered psychologists, early-career psychologists, and school counsellors.
Kate is not accepting new clients for assessment at this time, however, she remains a busy member of our assessment team through her active collaboration with Kids First’s provisional psychologists.
