Helping Hands Fine Motor Skills Program
Creative OT groups that help children become independent early learners
Fine Motor Skills support for northern beaches children.
For children aged 4 -6, building the foundation for fine motor skills is an essential step towards becoming confident, capable kids.
Sometimes, children in the final year of preschool or first year of primary school need extra support to build the independence they need to thrive and not just cope at home and in their classroom.
Kids First’s Helping Hands Fine Motor Skills Program is tailored to meet the unique needs of children aged 4 to 6 who require help to become more confident and self-reliant.
Each week, members of our experienced Occupational Therapy team will empower your child to build the essential skills they need for self-care, early learning, and functional independence.
At Helping Hands, your child will be given support to:
Strengthen their hand and finger muscles
Practice their pincer grip
Improve their hand-eye coordination
Learn self-care skills
Sit straight and strong so they can listen and learn
Develop dexterity and precision
Is a Helping Hands group right for your child?
Poor Fine Motor Skills can be the result of several underlying issues. That’s why we take you through our 4-step process to ensure that you can make an informed choice about this program’s suitability for your child.
Consult
If you’re interested in Helping Hands for your child and you are not an existing Kids First client, your child will first attend a consultation with one of our Occupational Therapists to participate in a fine motor skills screening session.
Listen
You’ll be given a chance to share your child’s fine motor skills challenges in a confidential setting to show us the ‘big picture’ of how your child is getting on at home, preschool or school.
Learn
We’ll learn more about how fine motor coordination issues are affecting your child and the impact it’s having on their confidence and learning.
Recommend
Our Occupational Therapist will give you professional advice for your child, telling you ethically whether joining a Helping Hands group is a great option, or if an alternative approach might be better for your child right now.
